Which City Is a Meridiana Home In? The ZIP Code Mismatch and How to Check

Bottom line: A Meridiana home is inside either Manvel or Iowa Colony, and more than 550 homes there carry a ZIP code assigned to the other city. The appraisal district account for the lot, not the mailing address, shows which city taxes it.
Why do some Meridiana addresses show the wrong city?
Meridiana was built across a city line. Its developer describes it as located in Iowa Colony and Manvel, and the ZIP codes the Postal Service assigned do not follow that line everywhere. The City of Manvel's page on the problem says more than 550 homes in Meridiana are affected by misaligned ZIP codes across Manvel and Iowa Colony.
The city's map shows two kinds of mismatch. In some sections a home is inside the City of Manvel but has been assigned the 77583 ZIP code the city page associates with Iowa Colony; in others a home is inside the City of Iowa Colony but carries Manvel's 77578. The city lists what that can cause: mail and package delays, service providers rejecting an address, and insurance, voting and other records naming the wrong city.
What did the Postal Service decide?
It kept the ZIP codes as they are. After the Postal Service's district denied the realignment, the City of Manvel and the City of Iowa Colony jointly submitted an appeal on October 31, 2025, with a resident survey that came back 54 in favor and 31 against overall: 36 to 8 among Manvel residents and 18 to 23 among Iowa Colony residents.
In a letter dated February 26, 2026, the Postal Service upheld the district's decision to deny Manvel's request. It gave two reasons: changing the boundaries would not improve postal operations or service and would add cost and disruption, and its regulations require that at least 50% of surveyed customers respond, with a majority in favor, a threshold the letter says was not met in either the Postal Service's surveys or the city-led ones. The city's page reports receiving the result on April 27, 2026 and notes that Iowa Colony's request was processed separately, with no result shared.
What changed after the appeal?
One thing. The Postal Service has designated Manvel as an acceptable last line for ZIP code 77583, so a Manvel home in that ZIP code can be addressed to Manvel. The letter adds that customers must keep using the assigned ZIP code with the city name.
A mailing address still does not change which city taxes a lot or which rules apply to it. Listing sites add a third layer: Redfin, for one, files its Meridiana neighborhood page under Iowa Colony. A home can therefore carry a Manvel city name, a 77583 ZIP code and an Iowa Colony label on a listing, all at once.
How do you check which city a Meridiana home is in?
Read the taxing units on the lot's account with the Brazoria Central Appraisal District. A lot inside the City of Manvel lists the City of Manvel among its units, and a lot inside Iowa Colony lists the City of Iowa Colony. Meridiana's two utility districts follow the same line: Brazoria County MUD 56's audit records that it lies entirely within the City of Manvel, and MUD 55's that it lies entirely within the City of Iowa Colony.
The city also publishes its map of the affected sections on the same page, marked by color. Checking it before an offer tells you whether the house you are looking at is one of the homes whose mailing address and city do not match, which is worth knowing before you order title work, insurance and utilities in the buyer's name.
What can this page not tell you?
Which section a particular house is in, or which ZIP code the Postal Service has on record for it. Both are read from the house's own records. This page also cannot report the outcome of Iowa Colony's request, because the City of Manvel had received none when it last updated its page, or say whether the Postal Service will look at the boundary again.
